Cacapon Bridge to WV 127 Bridge

12 Miles

Class 1-2

Gauges: Sources state that a minimum of 2 feet is required on the Great Cacapon Gauge.  At this level, the river may be lower than desired.  A reading of 3 feet provides a good run.   Since this gauge is several miles downstream, the accuracy of its use can be debated.  The gauge on the South Fork of the South Branch River near Moorefield may be used as an approximation.

(Minimum = 1.8 Feet   Maximum = 5 Feet)

The bridge gauge at the take-out (WV 127) has a good zero.  When this gauge is at 2.5 feet, the ride is fast and fun.

This run starts flat and ends flat.  In between, one will encounter exciting paddling, beautiful scenery and great camping opportunities.

Paddlers will encounter 3 good ledges along the way.  These were always my favorite part of the trip.   Scouting should be considered.  Especially for the third.  This is the largest and contains some jagged rocks.
