Scouted

We scouted from the ranger's station to Eckert's Bridge, approximately 2 miles.  McConnell's Mill gauge was 2.36 ft

Creek was fast with straightforward lines amongst big holes.  Eddies were still available but appeared to be dynamic.  Triple Drop was fast and continuous.  Looked like it would be an exciting open boat ride.  Recommended level's are 0 minimum and 2 ft maximum at McConnell's Mill.  Shuttle for the Gorge - From Pittsburgh - I-79 North to exit 96 Portersville/Rte 488.  Follow 488 west. After junction of 488/19, continue left on 488 to Mountville Road.  Follow Mountville to four-way and turn right onto Breakneck Road (if running both sections, continue straight on Mountville to the Harris Bridge take-out).  Different put-ins available: My favorite would be Rose Point.  From Breakneck go back the way you came - Breakneck to Mountville to 488 then this time make a left onto 19 North and follow to 422 West.  Go past the Park sign and continue to Rose Point making a right at the Harley Shop.  Proceed to the closed bridge where roadside parking is available.  Put-in is on the right. It is a fairly easy trail through the woods to the river.  Putting in here adds about a mile of flowing water, a good warm-up.  Taking the highway seems to be an easier drive because the back roads are a little rough.  Another available put-in would be the Ranger Station.  This can be reached by turning left at the Park sign on Rte 422.  Not sure but looks like you may park here.  Behind the building is a trail.  It will be a bit of a walk down hill over rocks.  This is probably not the best option, especially in the winter.  This put-in puts you right above the whitewater.  There are a few good rapids before you enter the pool above the dam.  The portage is on the left.  At this time, the area is under construction.  So, you have to walk past the covered bridge and find a good spot to walk down in.  A little further down the trail you may find that it is less steep and an easier path.  A rugged trail is available on river left.  This can be used to scout the entire run.
